Jigsaw puzzle – 303 Squadron Pilots
$29.95
303 Squadron was the most famous of the 15 Polish Air Force squadrons that flew with the RAF in World War II. This day fighter squadron, nickname ‘Kościuszko’ and also ‘City of Warsaw,’ was the highest-scoring Allied fighter squadron in the Battle of Britain, downing three times the average RAF score, while incurring only one-third the average casualties during the Battle of Britain.
The pilots of 303 Squadron were lionized by the British press, congratulated by King George VI, and adored by the British public. This image, showing nine of the squadron’s pilots, is arguably the best known photo of 303 Squadron pilots. It is one of a series of Squadron photos taken in November 1940 at RAF Leconfield after the Squadron had been moved to that station for a period of rest.
